Making 'Friends' in Network Marketing Industry !

The word 'Friends' immediately triggers fond memories of faces of buddies who always brought a smile to my face.Several emotions of playfulness, joy, sharing & loads of fun gush through my heart, thinking of friends. And that's what friends are for. As an old adage expresses it very aptly - 'You can't choose your family, but you surely can choose your friends' I am not too sure about the exact wordings,but it means the same. But as I was stepping in to the MLM Industry, also known as the network marketing industry, I realised that 'friendship' had a very different connotation. My MLM Upline taught me how i should break in to conversation with any & every stranger within 3 foot distance from me and form a 'friendship' with him / her. And then at the earliest possible opportunity start pitching my mlm / network marketing business opportunity or products to them. I found this prospecting strategy taught in the 'Thursday meetings' of my mlm company very uncomfortable & used to wonder whether this so called relationship building exercise would ever get me any business. As time passed by I realised that even my real friends started avoiding me as soon as I tried calling them to follow up for their opinion on my network marketing opportunity. And that's when I decided that I am not cut out for this mlm business & should rather quit than building fake friendships just to be able to sell my mlm products or get someone to join my mlm downline organisation. I quit my mlm business & soon got in to corporate world. Years later, when I went on the internet, researching some material for my 'Marketing Thesis', I hit upon Ann Sieg's " The Renegade Network Marketer' which was a revolutionary ebook, condemning all the so called prospecting & recruiting strategies that had been practised till date, as taught by the old school of network marketing. She went on to explain how the new methods of mlm lead generation of offering genuine value through internet network marketing helped you attract like minded entrepreneurs & prospects to your mlm business. How you could build lasting friendships with those who trust you and appreciate the value that you offered them & who chose to join you and your mlm business out of choice rather than you chasing them to join you. That book was a boon & today I have formed some of my best friends amongst my mlm prospects who became my 'Friends' first and later my customers. |
